Information

Our company was founded as an art book publishing company of the woodcut sliding technique in 1891,
and the origin of name of store is that the book of “Unso wa kaorikusa(Unso is aromatic herbs)” coined from the literati painter Tomioka Tessai. “Unso” is a perennial plant of the rutaceae, and the character “Un(芸)” is originally from the unsimplified Chinese character of “芸香(Unko).”
Thus,“Un(芸)” is different character of the abbreviated form of “藝(art).”
The Tokyo store opened in 1918.
We produce kimono prints for Japanese products and crafts, publication of color reference books, photo collections, and wooden carving for appreciation.
Currently, there are only a few stores in Kyoto and Tokyo that are said to be publishers of woodblock prints.
Among them, Unsodo is the only publishing company that publishes books bound in the "tesuri-mokuhanga" style, and has been producing multiple art works of reproduction.
